After this workshop you'll know how to use the subway, pick out where to eat and hang out, gain skills to make friends, defend yourself, and preserve your wellbeing.
MEET YOUR CITY
Get comfortable in the city. Day 1 includes:
- Evening welcome and check in
- Practice making friends
- Rooftop Social
- Begin your street smarts journey with a night time tour of Times Square!
NAVIGATION AND BOUNDARY SETTING
Learn to get around safely. Day 2 includes:
- Learn the city layout, neighborhoods, and transportation options
- Take the subway
- Use your voice to set boundaries
- Food tour of Little Italy, Chinatown, and the Lower East Side (LES), a historic Jewish neighborhood
PROTECT YOUR PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL SELF
Your whole person wellbeing is the gateway to personal and academic success. Day 3 includes:
- Identify a values compass and support network
- Physical self-defense moves
- Party safety-planning (Students)
- Real estate tour + wine and chocolate tasting (Guardians)

College is intimidating by itself and adding the dynamics of a big city can feel overwhelming. I want you to have every advantage your first term in NYC. Don't let fear keep you from participating.
I'm an assertiveness coach who works with young people transitioning to college. I have worked as a college orientation leader, with women's crisis organizations, violence prevention, and self-defense programs for women and girls. I'm also a licensed New York City tour guide and I'm excited to share with you the secrets of the greatest city in the world!
